Did you know? Exercising the muscles of your face is just as important as exercising the muscles in your body. Cosmetic acupuncture in the office can help with a number of ailments and help you look and feel good when you leave, but I always send my clients home with homework so they can maintain that good feeling until the next appointment.
Here are a few exercises you can do at home to help reduce wrinkles and sagging and to keep your face and neck looking young.
- Prevent a sagging neck
Lift your chin toward the ceiling while moving your jaw forward. You’ll feel a little tightening under your chin. As your neck extends, the muscles in front relax while the side sternocleidomastoid muscles get a workout. Hold for five seconds, then repeat the movement ten times.
- Strengthen the muscles around your mouth and tone your chin
Lower the corners of your mouth as if to form a pout or to show a sense of disgust. Don’t be afraid to exaggerate the expression. If you feel a tightening from chin to nose, you’re doing it right! You’re activating your fine mouth muscles, giving them the strength to attain a more relaxed smile.
- Combat a droopy sad mouth
Close your mouth then smile as hard as you can! At the same time, bring your lips as close as possible to your teeth. You’ll feel a tightening at the edge of your lips. It’s a great exercise! Even a fake smile makes you feel instantly good! What better way to feel fitter and younger? Hold the position as intensely as possible for five seconds, then repeat the movement ten times.
4. Sharpen the lower part of your face and plump up your lips
Close your mouth and bring your lower lip down until you can see your bottom teeth and feel tension in your chin. Imagine a string pulling each side of your mouth down. Hold the position for five seconds, then repeat ten times.
- Tone your lip muscles
Exhale completely, sucking your cheeks in to make a fish face and contracting your lip muscles as hard as possible. You should feel a slightly uncomfortable tightening around the lips. Hold the position for five seconds, then repeat ten times.
- Smooth away fine lines on your forehead
Place the fingers of both hands on the forehead facing inward, spreading them out between the eyebrows and hairline.
Gently sweep the fingers outward across the forehead, applying light pressure to tighten the skin. Relax and repeat ten times.
- Minimize deep eye hollows and droopy eyebrows
Place an index finger under each eye, pointing toward the nose. While keeping your teeth tightly covered with your lips, slightly open your mouth. Flutter the upper eyelids while gazing at the ceiling for 30 seconds.
8. Lessen drooping eyelids, crow’s feet, eye bags, and puffiness
Press both middle fingers together at the inner corner of the eyebrows, then with the index fingers, apply pressure to the outer corners of the eyebrows. Look to the ceiling, and raise the lower eyelids upwards to make a strong squint, and then relax. Repeat six more times and finish by squeezing eyes shut tightly for ten seconds.
Make sure to do these exercises at least once a day. Good luck!
